Equality & Diversity

Littleton is committed to principles of equality, diversity and social mobility in our provision of legal services, our recruitment and in our internal management of both staff and members.

Our equality and diversity policies have been developed in accordance with The Bar Standards Equality and Diversity code and we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of equal opportunities best practice. We support the Bar Council’s “Women in Law” pledge and are committed to greater equality across the profession. Please click on the link to view our diversity data

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and all sectors of the community. Candidates for pupillage and recruitment are assessed solely on grounds of merit.

Chambers is keen to promote access to the Bar. We will always try to accommodate requests for information and un-assessed mini pupillages from those of less advantaged backgrounds who want to gain an understanding of the Bar.

10,000 Black Interns

Littleton is extremely proud to have been part of the founding committee of 10,000 Black Interns – a program designed to promote opportunities for black law students to access the profession. In the last two years , we have helped arrange six week placements for over 40 Black students at over 50 different sets including those out of London . The feedback provided from each student has been effusive . Our first intern Anaya Price said of the scheme “Thank you, everyone at Littleton, for welcoming me so openly and warmly. I had tremendous insight at Littleton, and it has definitely given me a new outlook on life as a barrister. Thank you for the introductions that created such great connections and learning opportunities.”

Disabled Access

Littleton is easily accessible for those with mobility issues including wheelchairs. Our reception, members rooms and conferencing facilities can be accessed from street level via an automatic door and lift. We have access to disabled parking at the front of the building.

Founding Partner of Bridging the Bar

We are proud to be a founding partner of Bridging the Bar, a charity committed to the promotion of equal opportunities and diversity at the Bar, at all professional levels. Bridging the Bar’s mission is to ‘bridge’ the gap between the current Bar and a future Bar, that reflects the diversity of society.

We are supporting this mission by participating in the Bridging the Bar mini-pupillage scheme, through which candidates will be able to apply for a dedicated mini-pupillage experience, outside of our usual recruitment process. Furthermore, many individual members of Littleton have signed up to act as mentors to guide candidates through their pupillage applications and beyond. Bridging the Bar also seek to be transparent with their candidates to recognise the current inequality of opportunity at the Bar, and to highlight the chambers and organisations leading the way to greater equality.

In addition to these initiatives, Bridging the Bar are also providing candidates with opportunities for work experience, workshops for skills such as advocacy, interview skills and mooting, and wellbeing programmes to support candidates through their applications.

Bridging the Bar candidates are those who, owing to their disability, ethnic background, socio-economic background, education or sexuality, belong to groups which are statistically underrepresented in the profession .

We are delighted to support Bridging the Bar as part of our ongoing commitment to equality and diversity at the Bar.
