Maksym Kodunov has joined Littleton Chambers as Associate Tenant in July 2023.
Maksym is an international arbitration specialist whose experience includes investment treaty claims, shareholder and post-M&A disputes (often involving allegations of fraud), shipping and commodities, contentious construction (involving both arbitration and disputes-board adjudication). He was involved, as a counsel or party representative, in arbitrations under the ICSID, ICC, LCIA, SCC, VIAC, GAFTA, FOSFA, Ukrainian ICAC Rules, ad hoc arbitrations, and in related applications in the courts of England, US, BVI, Cyprus, Russia, Switzerland, and other jurisdictions.
Prior to joining Littleton, Maksym assumed various roles in private practice, including Counsel and Partner positions at Ukrainian law firms between 2009 and 2022 and, most recently, Visiting Lawyer at Pallas Partners in London in 2022 to 2023.
In 2015 to 2020, Maksym was Director of International Dispute Department of the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, in charge of representing the State in international arbitrations (primarily defending investment treaty claims) and foreign litigations (often involving aspects of sovereign immunity). As a part of his responsibilities in the Ministry, Maksym was also involved in drafting Ukraine’s bilateral investment treaties and led Ukraine’s delegations in the UNCITRAL Working Groups II and III and in negotiations on the new suite of the ICSID Rules.
